What is a Root Canal?

Root canal treatment is performed to treat or prevent infections, such as in cases when a tooth has extensive decay, trauma, or a crack. Root canal treatment involves removal of infected nerves, disinfection of the nerve chamber, and sealing everything with a biocompatible material.

An infected tooth may be symptomatic, but it can be “silent” as well. Root canal treatment should be done as soon as possible to prevent the spread of the infection to adjacent teeth, and worse of all, to other vital structures in the head and neck region, which can be life-threatening.
