When a tooth has cavities, the decayed portion of the tooth is removed and is filled in with tooth-coloured composite resin or silver amalgam filling to restore the anatomy and function of the tooth.
Composite resin, or “white filling” is a blend of plastic and ceramic. It is an esthetic choice of restorative material, especially on the teeth visible when you smile. Its versatility allows us to use it not only on fillings to treat cavities, but also to reshape the teeth (i.e. bonding) and repair fractures.
In cases when moisture control is difficult, amalgam is a good choice of restorative material. Amalgam is also not as technique sensitive as compared to composite resin. Even though amalgam has had a good track record of durability and longevity, the “silver filling” has lost its popularity due to its mercury content and unesthetic appearance.
Located in Coquitlam, on the corner of Ridgeway Ave and Marmont St, our clinic is accessible and close to family neighbourhoods with onsite parking.
