A crown, or “cap”, is a restoration that is placed over a structurally compromised tooth to improve its strength and restore its esthetics and functionality. A crown can be made with different materials, such as porcelain or metal, with varying strength and translucency. Depending on a patient’s bite, oral habits (i.e. nail biting, grinding, bruxing), and esthetic expectations, the appropriate crown material is chosen. (to improve structural integrity, function and esthetics of a weakened tooth.)
When there is a missing tooth, a bridge may be recommended as a restorative option. A bridge is made of multiple crowns that are connected together and is secured on the adjacent teeth.
